No Sound on Mintbox 2

I just got my mintbox 2 last month and am a total newbie to mintbox and to linux. I am hooked up to a monitor that has no sound output and would like to feed the sound either to a set of computer speakers or to my sound system. But the sound profile shows only s/pdif output (no analog) and that is apparently going through to the monitor and I can't get it to go anywhere else. I have tried hooking up the monitor through the hdmi and the displayport, but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?
