Post Re: Linux mint 17
Hi,

I did a quick install of Linuxmint 17 and I have to say, it is working fine out of the box, even the sound playback (radiotray, youtube).

What do you need?
- Linuxmint 17 XFCE 32 bit

Steps:
- Boot the install media (pendrive) and install the system normally.
- After installation, you can boot to your new system.
- Update your system.
- Fix the pulseaudio choppy sound like this:
Open /etc/pulse/default.pa as root in a text editor (nano, mc, vi, whatever).
Find the following line: load-module module-udev-detect .....
Modify it to this: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
Save it and reboot your machine
Enjoy the music :)

Notes:
* Linuxmint thinks, you have a laptop display and an other monitor and it use them as mirror. That is why the screen size only 1024x768.
Just start the Display application, disable the Laptop monitor. You will be able to setup a better resolution.
It is true for the setup process, so, you can play with it with the livecd.
* If you lost your eye-candy wallpaper and get an xfce mouse on blue screen, just modify your path to the nice backgrounds in the Display properties:
/usr/share/xfce4/backdrops

Enjoy your good old/new friend fit-pc2(i) in a brand new suit :)))))))
Attachment:
File comment: Look & feel of Linuxmint 17 Xfce on Fit-PC2i . You can see an inverted line in the top-left console, that is the solution for choppy audio playback.

Notes2:
- I do not care about VAAPI nor emgd driver
- I also did not care about flashplayer

Main goals:
- Latest LTS linux
- Lightweight WM
- Able to install lightweight ERP (ledgersmb.org) - ongoing

Thank you startit_ltd for this detailed feedback and tricks.

I plan to install Linux Mint 17 “Qiana” KDE, just because I'm accustomed to KDE and like the tools.

Aside the advantage of being lightweight, does anyone has some thoughts about KDE vs XFCE on FitPC2i ?

You are welcome advid.
Unfortunately I do not use KDE, so, I have no idea about KDE.

If you have time to play with them, just install both and check them, how they are working in your workload.
Good luck!

Thanks to Startit_ltd and all of you : I discover a new compuer with that last version of Linux Mint.

I've got several questions :
- What about your wifi connection ? Does it work ? Il doesn't for me.
- Do you think we have to install the Intel EMGB driver and a specific media player ?
- As asked Gunjar, why does Compulab no longer support our Fit-PC 2s ? We now know it works and we hope the support will have a look about those issues !

Hi gregb,

Regarding your technical questions:
- Wifi seems working on my test machine, at least one of them. I did not do long test using wifi. There are some different Wifi interfaces in the fit-pc2(i) versions, so, maybe some of the working, some of them not.
- My goal was to create server appliance, I had no time to play with EMGD drivers or media players.
- The manufacturer of the chipset is the Intel, so, if they are not able to provide a recent driver, that's a problem. I guess they realized, they are not able to support these kind of VGA, probably they have no knowledge, resources or they just decided to abandon this chipset. Who knows....

Regarding the server appliances, check these videos:

Bye,
István

Any update on this? About 9 months on.

I would like to get my fitPC2i's to the latest LTS.

You can give it a try, it is working without any magic trick.
In the other hand, I did not try HD video playback or flash video playback.

I'm talking about "official support".

I know I can try as many distros as I like. I have tried a few. The ones that I have tried so far have been a bit dodgy on this hardware.

Please specify exactly the issue, as obviously this thread has changed topics more than once.
